Minecraft Banners, or otherwise known as Flags, is a feature that was added onto Minecraft 1.8. Banners allowed Minecraft players to create their own unique “banners” using sticks, different-colored dyes and blocks. Want to learn how to make custom banners in Minecraft? You’ve come to the right place! In this guide, I’ll show you how you can make banners and outline the basic recipes on each of them.
How To Craft A Minecraft Banner
Banners may be place on walls or on the ground, facing any direction you choose. Flags are considered as non-solids and therefore, will act like one, i.e., mobs and items can pass through it. Moreover, lava and water will flow around flags but they cannot be burned and are immovable via pistons.
Here are the basic Minecraft Banner Recipes:
Blank Banner. You will need 6 pieces of wool and a stick in order to create a Minecraft banner.
White Banner. A bleach combined with a banner will result in the removal of the banner’s color, making it totally white. Keep in mind that the patterns will be washed away as well.
Where To Find The Materials For Crafting Banners
You will need the right material in the right number in order to successfully create your own banner. Here’s a list of the essential materials and where you can find them.
Stick. Sticks are raw materials that can be gathered in a variety of ways. First, you can obtain anywhere between 0 to 2 sticks when you destroy dead bushes. Or, you can kill witches to get anywhere between 0 to 6 sticks. They can be obtained while fishing and in bonus chests as well.
Wool. Otherwise known as “Cloth”, wools can be obtained largely from sheep. Equip a pair of shears and use it on an adult sheep. When they die they leave behind 1 wool. Natural wool colors include pink, brown, black, gray, light gray and white. If you’re looking for different colored wools, you’ll either need to dye the sheep first or combine white wool with the preferred color dye.
Bleach. Bleach can be made at a Lab Table with 3x Sodium Hypochlorite and 3x Water.
Examples Of What You Can Do With Your Minecraft Banner
Patterns and other designs may be added to your Minecraft banner when you get to the crafting grid.
For example, if you want to fill up half your banner, you can put in six dyes and arrange them at the top, bottom, left or right grid to get the desired effect.
You can make a cross pattern by placing five dyes and arrange them as such.
You can create a brickwork pattern by adding a brick block in the crafting grid. Note that you can add a dye to change the brick pattern’s color.
You can make a bordered flag by putting eight dye pieces on the edge of the grid.
You can make a fancy border by combining a vine with your banner. Like the brickwork pattern you can add a dye to change the color.
Last but not the least, you can use a Creeper Head, a Wither Skeleton Skull, an Oxeye Daisy and an Enchanted Gold Apple to get a Creeper face, skull & crossbones, a flower and a Mojang logo design for your banner, respectively. Adding a dye will change the color to the preferred hue.
